Kilimanjaro, known as the Roof of Africa, is an inactive stratovolcano located in northeastern Tanzania reaching a height of 19,341 feet/5,895m. There are 3 main routes up the mountain starting with the Grand Traverse then the Western Approach Route and finally the Umbwe Route. Thomson's success rate is 96-100% depending on the route and like any other high mountain acclimitization is KEY to summiting! Below you'll find information on routes, trek & safari dates, guides and much more!

Mount Kilimanjaro Routes

Western Approach Route - 9 Day Trek

98%+ summit success rate! Enjoy exceptional acclimatization time, a daylight summit bid, and an overnight in the crater at the foot of ancient glaciers.

Your basecamp: a beautiful permanent tented lodge featuring eco-friendly comforts and a commitment to sustainable conservation - a once in a lifetime African experience!

  • Trek Only - 13 Days
  • Trek & Safari - 18 Days

The Grand Traverse - 10 Day Trek

The ultimate Kilimanjaro trek spans the entire circumference of the mountain and offers unbelievable views that trekkers on other routes won't see!

A longer route means gentler slopes, maximum acclimatization time, and a daytime summit bid. The services of a skilled personal porter are provided for your comfort on this once-in-a-lifetime trek.

  • Trek Only - 14 Days
  • Trek & Safari - 19 Days

Umbwe Route - 6 Day Trek

The best choice of the shorter routes: FAR less traveled and more economical while maintaining unparalleled service, expert guidance, and dedication to safety. Start your adventure with wildlife viewing and hiking in beautiful Arusha National Park.
